Sedation

# True IV Sedation Dentistry

Sleep comfortably through treatment — administered and monitored in-office by Dr. Fatemi.

## True IV sedation dentistry

IV (intravenous) sedation lets you relax deeply — often sleeping through your visit — while Dr. Fatemi completes your treatment. He administers and monitors the sedation himself, in our own office, so your care stays in one place from start to finish.

### Who IV sedation can help

- Patients with significant dental anxiety or a past bad experience.
- Longer or more involved procedures, such as implant surgery, done comfortably in fewer visits.
- Patients with a strong gag reflex, or difficulty getting numb.
- [Patients with special needs](https://fatemifamilydentistry.com/sedation-for-special-needs/) who benefit from a calm, controlled visit.

### Credentialed, and monitored the whole time

Dr. Fatemi holds a **Master of the College of Sedation Dentistry (MaCSD)** — earned by examination and by meeting the College’s requirements — along with Maryland dental sedation permit **#11720**, and he administers IV sedation personally. Throughout your appointment you are continuously monitored on:

- **Electrocardiogram (ECG)** — your heart rhythm.
- **Pulse oximetry** — your blood-oxygen level and breathing.
- **Capnography** — your exhaled CO₂, a second check on your breathing.
- **Blood pressure.**
- **Direct observation** by the team throughout.

### Why in-office sedation by the treating dentist matters

Because the same dentist administers the sedation and performs the treatment, the person adjusting your sedation is the person who knows exactly how much treatment is left and how you’re responding — nothing is handed off mid-procedure. IV sedation is available at **both** our Gaithersburg and Lexington Park offices.

### Your safety comes first

Before sedation we review your health history and medications. You’ll need to fast for at least 6 hours beforehand and arrange a responsible adult to drive you home. See our [IV sedation instructions](https://fatemifamilydentistry.com/sedation-instructions-form/) to prepare.
